Name
Culture Is Not a WYSIWYG: Connecting Individual Identity to Collective Culture
Claudia Orozco-Gomez
Description

You are not simply your appearance, your role, your nationality, your age, your *insert label here*. We are so much more than the aggregate or the common denominator. There is no Us, without a sense of belonging. Culture is hard to define, yet we see ourselves tasked with influencing and changing the culture of a complex workplace made up of *gasp*... human beings! As we seek to gear actions to a whole, our propensity to judge and classify may lead to shortcuts that look past the wealth of individual complexities. This experiential and reflective workshop is intended to create some collective discomfort as we face our individual identities, connect to an ephemeral team, make our culture explicit, and architect culture intentionally to create a sense of belonging. Through this workshop, you’ll hopefully see yourself and others differently, and leave better equipped to formulate the change you intend to create. Heads up: I am bringing my whole self and providing an example of how What You See Is NOT What You Get.
