Organizations are constantly generating patterns—some enabling progress, others producing results antithetical to the desired outcomes. In this interactive talk, you’ll explore how to recognize, analyze, and experiment with shifting these patterns in a way that aligns with the unique dynamics of your environment. Much like MacGyver solving problems with whatever was at hand, this session will help you learn to recognize the materials—the patterns—already in play and use them to drive meaningful change. In small groups, you will choose a real-world challenge, uncover its patterns and anti-patterns, and experiment with context-dependent interventions. This is not about following a formula but engaging in epistemic actions - learning to see the game, play it with intention, and change it when necessary. This session is ideal for leaders, change agents, agile practitioners, and anyone solving problems in complex work systems.

• Understand context: Distinguish between patterns that reinforce system goals and those that undermine them.
• Explore interventions: Experiment with ways to nudge a system toward more adaptive and generative behaviors.
• Go beyond frameworks: Move from applying "best practices" to shaping practices that fit your specific context.
• Engage in sense-making: Develop practical skills to surface hidden dynamics and facilitate meaningful change.
