Joseph Montalbano is an Agile Coach with over 20 years of IT and consulting experience including over 16 years of experience with Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe. He has full-SDLC experience in global corporate, government, and startup environments where he has succeeded in roles such as Lead Developer, Solution Architect, Project and Program Manager, Director of Software Development, Management Consultant, Scrum Master, and Agile Coach.

Joseph currently leads a group of Agile Coaches, Scrum Masters, and Project Managers leading Agile transformations at scale for Federal government clients. He excels at creating Agile programs and work environments that let knowledge workers be creative, be productive, and be themselves. Most recently, he has been having a lot of fun and unleashing new levels of productivity by augmenting his clients’ Agile programs with Human-Centered Design (HCD). Joseph is a SAFe Contributor and author of Using HCD With SAFe. He is also co-author of the Amazon #1 Best Selling Agile Almanac Book 2: Programs with Multi- and Virtual-Team Environments. He is currently collaborating with Brad Lehman on Human Centered-Agile: How to Build Next-Generation Agile Programs Using Human-Centered Design, coming soon from Productivity Press.

Joseph is an Advanced Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Product Owner, SAFe Program Consultant, Project Management Professional, and an Agile Certified Practitioner. In addition, he holds certifications including SAFe Lean Portfolio Manager, SAFe Advanced Scrum Master, SAFe Agilist, and SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager. He has an MBA with a focus in Information Technology from Johns Hopkins University.
