To read or not to read? Adapting a Book Club for engineers towards inclusion
Description

Visualize a topic you're learning about. What is the effort that you're putting in? How is it paying off? I run a Book Club for engineers as a collaborative learning experience. While the format and themes of this learning experience score high in terms of participant satisfaction, I realized that reading books may be hard for some participants. These learners would tend to fall behind and eventually leave the group. To read or not to read, developing a practice or taste - these are two examples of polarities that spark conflict and block opportunities about training matters. In this presentation, I'll share how I reflected on my personal bias as reader and learner, and got a bit closer to other learning preferences. You'll learn how I chose to use this new awareness to adapt this Book Club to make it a more inclusive learning experience to target a wider spectrum of learning preferences.
