Teaching Empirical Process Control Using Simulation
Description

Empirical process control, a way of managing work based on the observation of the successes or misfortunes of earlier activities, is a pillar of all agile methods and a difficult concept to grasp. In this workshop, we propose to share our experience in the use of a free , light weight, scalable and customizable simulation to concretize and reinforce basic empirical process control concepts previously learned through other methods, e.g. lectures and readings. The simulation approach is not only engaging, but more important, allows instructors to bring up issues and observe the process by which decisions are made to provide feedback in a situated, timely manner.
