They Deserve Better: Why your onboarding is failing your people, and how to fix it.
Description
The Product Manager / Product Owner is arguably the hardest, and most critical role in product success. Yet, when a new PO joins a team, it often feels like the famous scene in Captain Phillips. Someone new jumps aboard the ship and says, "Look at me, look at me, I'm the PO now." At best it's going to be a rocky few weeks. At worst, the ship is in real trouble. Too often, this is how it felt at Vanguard, so we decided to do something about it. Our crew, and our clients, deserved better. After 6 months of piloting and operationalizing, we have moved the NPS of our Product Person onboarding from -95 to +90 and want to share our successes, learnings, and what's coming next.
