How did I quickly prioritize features I’m not familiar with? How did I understand the current process and contribute to the future process all within 2 weeks? How did I facilitate a shared understanding between team members and users? If you’ve ever asked these questions as a newly appointed product manager, product owner, UX/UI designer, and or development lead, then this hands-on workshop is for you. User story mapping is a powerful technique that bridges the gap between user expectations and development execution. Using scenario-based learning, I’ll share how I used user story maps to quickly assimilate all the information I needed to start adding value faster. First, we’ll tackle gaining a better understanding of user needs by utilizing user personas. You’ll then discover how to translate user needs into tangible features by visually representing the user's journey. Penultimately, we’ll see how user story maps can be used to facilitate and drive product discussions between the team, users, and key stakeholders. Lastly, we’ll uncover techniques for effective backlog prioritization whilst ensuring alignment with user expectations. At the end of this session, you will have the skills needed to utilize user story maps effectively within your agile teams.
1. Design strategic user personas to expedite understanding of the user roles within a system.
2. Recall the key components of a user story map.
3. Layout existing workflows onto a user story map.
4. Facilitate product discovery sessions between your team, users, and key stakeholders utilizing user story maps.
5. Discuss strategies for prioritizing features based on user value and expectations.
