Name
Leading Together in a Volatile World (Sarah Baca, Jolene Jangles)
Description

Work is increasingly volatile as the pace of change increases. We need a new way to approach how we work with each other. We also need new skills and tools to work together to respond to the rapid pace of change in a way that is sustainable.

As humans we are wired for story, to make meaning out of what happens to and around us. Our perspective is influenced by our past experiences, beliefs, and intentions. This can cause us to get in our own way or limit collaboration when we lead with others.

In this workshop you will use tools that we have used with hundreds of leaders to help their organizations thrive and innovate. You will learn how to use Brena Brown's research and tools combined with David Grove's Clean Language and Systemic Modelling from Caitlin Walker. In the 21st century, we need these skills to manage ourselves while also being curious about our colleagues and not holding them in contempt. By combining these approaches, you will have more tools to adapt to change as soon as you return to work.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Distinguish a connection between how participants view others and their impact as a leader
  • Demonstrate an introductory understanding of Clean Language questions
  • Implement methods to practice of the 21st century skill to get curious, not contemptuous
  • Construct your own tools to create relationships that welcome disagreement and perspective-taking
  • Gain insight into your own and others' needs in a way you can take with you to use at work
  • Learn the importance of meaning-making in humans, and how, left unchecked, our reliance on story can shape our thinking, emotion, and behavior.
  • Learn the critical role that curiosity and recognition of emotion play in developing rising skills.
  • Discuss how the brain is wired for story, how this influences the development of stories that are not true and how these stories can affect our behavior.
  • Recognize common strategies for offloading hurt and learn more effective behaviors for managing emotion.
