Are you working in a bureaucratic environment, struggling to achieve the benefits of agility? Do your teams fail to deliver value to end users on a consistent basis? If so, you might be impacted by poorly structured work.
Poorly structured work is a common barrier to achieving desired outcomes. Whether a result of leaders creating solutions for teams or trying to do too much at one time, defining our work poorly can prevent us from delivering with agility, regardless of how well we perform agile processes and ceremonies.
This talk focuses on effective methods for taking a grand vision or daunting compliance initiative and breaking it down into work items that 1. achieve end-to-end value and 2. are consumable by an agile delivery team.
Attendees will have the opportunity to apply the presented techniques to their own work situations in a workshop format.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Identify 3 anti-patterns resulting in poorly structured work
- Recognize patterns of poorly structured work and how to isolate its source
- Describe and apply work breakdown methods suitable to different domains of work
- Achieve the critical success criteria important for breaking down work effectively for achieving outcomes
- Successfully apply multiple work breakdown techniques to enable the delivery of work using an agile approach
Attendees will apply the work breakdown methods to example scenarios and leave with practical, tangible takeaways they can try out upon returning from the conference.
