So you joined a self-organizing team and everything was instantly perfect. The team openly shares, deliberates and efficiently comes to full agreement. Everything is by consensus, everybody participates, and all of your decisions are above average.
Yeah, right.
It’s okay. You’re not alone. Most teams really struggle with collaboration because they don’t practice Autonomy, Safety and Structure. They don’t have the autonomy to make sure the right people are involved so there are either too many people or not enough. If they manage to get the exact right people involved, teams don’t have the safety to speak honestly or the structure to actually get to the best options and decisions.
You and your fellow attendees will learn how to visualize the work in a way that allows autonomy in decision making roles. You’ll practice structures for generative ideation and parallel thinking, along with techniques that encourage safety so that all voices are heard. Tapping into the power of divergent and convergent thinking, you’ll spend time working individually, in small groups, and all together.
When you return to work, your team may still not be perfect, but these three kick-A$$ components will bring your collaboration one step closer.
