Unfreezing Resistance to Change with the SCARF Model
Michelle Pauk

What causes some people to lean into change, while others resist and shut down? In this workshop we introduce the SCARF (Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, Fairness) model in relation to agile team coaching, based on the information presented in the whitepaper “SCARF: A brain-based model for collaborating with and influencing others” by David Rock of the NeuroLeadership Institute. We connect these concepts with the notion of psychological safety to inspect our own behavior as agile coaches and uncover how we can reduce the threat we pose as change agents to those we hope to serve.
