Name
Managing Dependencies to Unlock Product Development Flow at Scale
Troy Magennis
Description

As we build products with more teams (scale) it can become difficult to coordinate the smooth flow of work between those teams (dependencies). Dependencies often block work progressing and leave valuable product enhancements sitting idle for long periods of time. Unlocking the delayed value and decreasing the amount of needless idle time is a massive opportunity ripe for the picking. Better dependency management isn't difficult, it mostly involves setting up systems for better conversations. In this workshop, we particularly look at how to quickly assess what types of dependencies most impact flow (and quantify that impact), and focus on solving those. We learn the goal isn't zero dependencies, it is the constant improvement of the major dependency impediments - it is a journey. In this workshop, you will learn - - The different types of dependencies that block flow (no matter what process you use) - How to quantify the impact dependencies are having on flow and predictability - How to facilitate or use historical data to find the most impactful causes of dependency delay - How to facilitate and solve the root causes of those dependency delays - How to facilitate better interactions and visualizations to avoid those dependencies in the future
