Slicing user stories…It is already a challenge to convince people that they need to split their user stories into smaller parts - and I don't mean analysis-design-build-test or frontend-business logic-database. It is important to understand that you can still deliver value by splitting user stories vertically into small pieces of similar size that fit into a sprint. There are very good resources with patterns to help you slice user stories. As an agile coach and trainer, I always relied on Richard Lawrence's material. Richard's story splitting patterns and flowchart are my preferred resources. For those who don't know the slicing patterns of Richard Lawrence, check out his Guide to Splitting User Stories (https://www.humanizingwork.com/the-humanizing-work-guide-to-splitting-user-stories/). Now, understanding how to slice user stories is 1 thing, being able to do so, is something else. During coaching I experienced many times that people don't really know how to get started with these patterns. What if we could turn it upside down and start from the slices and see how they relate to a larger user story and then learn the patterns that resulted in those slices? That inspired me to come up with a card game about story slicing.
